Just for completeness, I reinstalled the now partitioned and formatted Samsung drive into the PC in place of the Western Digital drive and managed to achieve the same result. You will want to use GPT software to partition those 2 large hard drives. I logged a support call with ASRock but they haven’t been able to resolve either. You will want to use GPT software to partition those 2 large hard drives. I understand that the VIA RAID software will actually handle single or non-raid configurations once the drives have been recognised but still no luck on this front and without the drives being seen by my system, I’m unable to partition or do anything sensible with the drives. At the moment, I have both Samsung drives installed asuss everything else returned to its normal state with the drives non-functional.
Hot plugging the SATA drive which is supposed to be possible, froze the system except for a couple of seconds every couple asua minutes whilst hot unplugging the drive restored operation as previously. For dual channel to work with all four slots filled, the RAM has to be identical in speed and type which means that the maximum RAM you can get it to run with seems to be 2gig 4 x mb ASRock have said that they can’t asua the issue so it may point to this board being US. By the way another question: Code 12 If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. Please report all spam threads, posts and suspicious members. The Motherboard BIOS makes no mention of SATA drives except in the section on booting and then it is just a general switch to either have the SATA boot bios aus or disabled – it is currently enabled and I will try things with it disabled as well so that I have covered all the angles.
Will look some more. Did you test with 4G RAM?

I Teejay, Did you try to install Windows 7? By the way you didn’t answer my question about witch is the maximum hard disk capacity with this mother board. I can try that shortly. It is currently running with Windows 7 but you will need p4c88 be aware that the VIA drivers are only supported p4c88 to XP.
I did note that I only have the rightmost two jumpers on my drive, one of these is the one shown above and now jumpered.

Hey there fella, nope – no resolution but I didn’t have another graphics card to try. If so, where do I get a driver that will work? Since I don’t intend to move my operating system onto either of the SATA drives I haven’t tried the floppy boot disk method but do have the driver for this. This was not so and although the drive did spin up, it was not recognised p488 the Windows software as a viable drive.
The EaseUS software should let you create a bootable optical disk where you should be able format each hard drive without booting to XP.
Any ideas or advice at all would be welcome. I logged a support call with ASRock but they haven’t been able to resolve either. Latest VIA chipset drivers are here: I also exchanged the motherboard for a similar one which I intended to use to build a printer server, and fitted all the ancilliary hardware and p44v88 that up with identical results to those previously obtained.

I have now spent two days messing about with this problem and have run out of ideas. Before win7, my P35 win2k sp3 pro setup had no problem with any of my or GB WD Caviar Black hard drives, where each drive had several partitions. Tried new drivers, flashing p4v8 BIOS to 1. Hope this help you. Code 10 ‘ followed by an invitation to start the troubleshooter which I did.
